Hope, dread, and fear were emotions felt by students and faculty following news of the Monterey Park attack that occurred on Saturday Jan. 21, when a gunman stormed into a dance studio and took the lives of 11 people. A similar shooting happened two days later on Monday Jan. 23 in Half Moon Bay. Both shootings targeted the Asian community.

Throughout the first three weeks of the new year, Northern California saw a barrage of heavy rain and high wind speeds that triggered flood warnings for Sonoma County and much of the state. Friends and family of Sourdough and Co. shooting victim speak out

The suspected shooter in the Nov. 13 Sourdough and Co. incident, 19-year-old Jade Cutrer from Santa Rosa, was being held in Sonoma County jail with a $1 million dollar bail under suspicion of child endangerment, possession of firearm without a serial number and attempted murder, but was released on Nov.15 without any charges. Following the suspect’s release from jail, the friends and family of the 16-year-old shooting victim that was shot while working last week have begun speaking out about the incident on social media and to reporters as the attack appears to have been targeted.

Stevenson Hall’s long awaited reopening

A ribbon ceremony will signal the building’s reopening which will soon grant Seawolves access to additional academic resources. The project will move all administrative services to Salazar and make Stevenson a 100% academic building. Salazar will serve as an administrative building and center for community engagement, Schulz will feature student academic services, and Stevenson will serve as a faculty center, office of research and center for environmental inquiry. This change is expected to make access to resources easier for students.
