Seawolves get creative with paint-by-number

With the 2022 semester now in progress, Sonoma State's Student Involvement department invited Seawolves to participate in one of their weekly do-it-yourself events. Organized by the Peaps, a group of student workers who coordinate the events held on campus, the DIY weekly activities consist of different options from art projects to trivia nights. These events help students relieve stress from the week's work and provide fun for all.

SSU Theatre holds first live table read of 'Water by the Spoonful'

The Sonoma State Theatre Arts & Dance program reached new heights on September 6, when the performers in the upcoming play “Water by the Spoonful” did a live table reading of their on-stage roles, a first for this SSU program. With the play premiering October 21, the Theatre program wanted to promote and prepare for the event, as well as strengthen their bond as a team.

Dinner and a movie: Mighty Ducks at the Green

At 4 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 27, Sonoma State University hosted a picnic on the Weill Lawn at the Green Music Center for the viewing of The Mighty Ducks.  The weather was perfect for an outside movie, with breezy temperatures of about 70 degrees and clear skies. Dozens of local families came out to the event and spread out all across the lawn. Many students were present for the film as well and kids were running wild, throwing footballs and baseballs and having a blast. Food vendors such as Sol Azteca and Trader Jim’s Dole Whip were there selling burritos and ice cream to those who attended.

Andy Grammer returns to the GMC

Friday, August 26, marked the first major performance held at the Green Music Center (GMC) for the Fall semester. In celebration of the final weeks of summer and the 10 year anniversary of the Green Music Center being open, GMC put on a concert performance. “It was a kickoff event like no other,” said Jack Kelly, a third year transfer, who is new to Sonoma State campus.

'Head West' for the summer at The Barlow

Now that summer is swiftly approaching, it is the perfect time for the Seawolves to discover more of Sonoma County. The Barlow, which is located in Sebastopol, offers a variety of activities to partake in. On May 7, an event known as “Head West” welcomed small businesses and local organizations creating an outdoor marketplace. Patrons were able to browse freely through the market to discover what participating businesses had to offer at their own pace.

Students showcase their talents at the 2022 Spring Performance Festival

Sonoma State’s Department of Theater Arts and Dance made its debut of their Spring Performance Festival this past weekend. The event is held at Person Theater on campus and will continue through May 5-7. The performances feature students' senior projects, dance performances and Eurydice, a performance piece.

The Senior Project Festival is student driven and gives students an opportunity to showcase all of their talents. There will be five senior projects performed during the event, including dance pieces and a theater arts performance.

SSU choir performs at legendary Carnegie Hall

In June of 2021, Dr. Jenny Bent, Director of Choral Activities at SSU, began preparing for a performance that was almost one year away, on April 17, 2022. Bent, along with the SSU chamber singers SonoVoce, the SSU concert choir, as well as choirs from Santa Rosa Junior College, and Reedley College, had been hard at work in the months leading up to the concert, which took place during the New England Symphonic Ensemble’s performance on Perelman stage at the infamous Carnegie Hall .
