On Feb 28, the National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA) president, Kaye Wise Whitehead, released an email statement in regards to Florida governor Ron De Santis’ attempts to delegitimize AP African American Studies curriculum and pressuring the CollegeBoard against making revisions to these courses. This isn't anything unique, as similar instances over the last two and a half years have seen courses focusing on similar subjects being targeted for supposedly being “woke”.

Student Involvement hosted a variety of games at Casino Night on Friday for both students familiar with casino games and those less initiated, such as Poker, Blackjack, and then Apples to Apples, Connect 4, and PLINKO.
Sonoma State interim President Mike Lee sat down on Tuesday, Jan. 31 to spill the tea and answer from students. The students asked questions that ranged from lighthearted and fun to more serious questions that some students wanted answers to. Spill The Tea with President Lee was hosted by Associated Student Productions, ASP. Aside from possible answers to any pressing questions one might have, Seawolves were also encouraged to show up to the event for free bubble tea. The first 100 people to show up were able to get their hands on the treat while waiting for the event to begin. Although there seemed to be plenty to go around at the start of the questions and answer session.

Many of the ways people express their creativity and passions can be found through painting, writing, music, and film. For others, they find their creative solace in makeup and theater. There are millions of other hobbies and activities that are consumed and enjoyed by people, and yet, there are no bans for writers, painters, and filmmakers. So, why has the state of Tennessee banned drag shows?
When students leave their evening classes, the sky is either a gradient of dark blues and oranges or it is entirely pitch black. For students taking night classes, the walk from Carson Hall to Lot E that is usually a nice, leisurely stroll during the day can suddenly feel like an unsettling and eerie walk.
While the use of the Emergency Blue Light Call buttons scattered throughout campus seems nice, it is unfortunate that it is not accessible through every part of the campus. These buttons only serve as a way to report known or suspected crime, especially in emergencies.
The weather is getting warmer and more Sonoma State students are heading to the bars. With finals creeping up around the corner, a night out is a good way to destress and have fun with friends, but it is important to remember going out has its risks.
Here at SSU, the university places students on a pathway towards success because of their FREE support systems and resource accessibility. Oftentimes, Seawolves feel like their cultural, economic, and recreational needs are not met at this school. The Sonoma State STAR believes that students have to take more of an initiative to find certain resources on campus. Be curious about Sonoma State-the school has endless opportunities to discover.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by classes and all of your other responsibilities? A Stress Reduction Class is now being offered at the Recreation Center and is a laid-back yoga class focusing on relaxation and breathing. The class is on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and is led by Kim Purdy, an executive assistant at Sonoma State, who is also an experienced yoga instructor.
Before we all departed on spring break seawolves met for the 12th session of the lecture series titled, “Black and Brown in Blue.” On Wednesday, March 15, Officer Jillian Van Riper sat down with Sonoma State Police Chief Nader Oweis to tell her life story and discuss the struggles that come with being a woman in the police force.

This past weekend the 2023 CCAA Softball Tournament was held at Cal State Dominguez Hills’ Toro Diamond. The tournament featured a modified format that mirrored the baseball championship tournament. The first day (Wednesday) saw four lowest-seeded teams compete in a single elimination game. The remaining teams were reseeded for a double-elimination tournament that took place from Thursday to Saturday.
Sonoma State University’s Baseball team finished their regular season on Saturday with a series against San Francisco State University and their senior night in celebration of their graduating players.
Around 11 a.m. on Monday, March 1 a fight broke out in an art classroom at Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa leaving 16-year-old Jayden Pienta dead and another student injured.
